The high-deflection BVV comfort wheel with double-ring shock absorber

Tailor made for challenging rail lines

This type of high-deflection wheel was developed for routes with very specific challenges – for rail lines in historic city centres with protected buildings or carriage concepts without a primary shock absorber stage where element-sprung wheels are physically limited. The BVV double-ring shock absorber with integrated safety shoulders has proven itself worldwide – in terms of comfort as well as safety aspects.

Wheel rim made of weight-saving special steel

Low-noise

-Integrated noise damping with high-damping special rubber compounds
-Optional: additional damping rings to further reduce noise from bends

Durable

Wheel tyres made of high-tech materials of ExcelsiorR N, H or SO qualities reduce wear and fatigue damage

High availability

Torsion-proof double-ring shock absorber with special securing cams and fatigue-resistant tyres for trouble-free operation

Variable

On track and carriage concept with individually tuned suspension behaviour.

Easy to service

Maintenance-free rubber elements and easy, quick tyre change

The design principle

1
Easily by specially hardened steels – Wheel tyres in tried and tested ExcelsiorR quality – Optional: Standard quality according to UIC and ASTM – Use of high strength special steels for wheel body and pressure disc. Design and mate-rials are designed for longevity and weight reduction
2
Twist-proof double ring shock absorber – Two individually designed rings made of special long life rubber compound for maxi-mum durability over the entire service life – Non-rotating due to high primary stress plus form-fitting cam connection to the steel parts
3
Wheel body/pressure disc – The pressure disc is attached to the wheel body by means of a conical press-fit joint and secures the double-ring shock absorber – Screws only for fixing the pressure disc – Rubber rings without breakthroughs and the like for max. loading capacity
4
Easily by specially hardened steels – Wheel tyres in tried and tested ExcelsiorR quality – Optional: Standard quality according to UIC and ASTM – Use of high strength special steels for wheel body and pressure disc. Design and mate-rials are designed for longevity and weight reduction
5
Vertical deflection of the shock absorber element of up to 5 mm with dynamic loads – Individual, on track and carriage concept tailored deflection of the shock absorber element
6
Route protection -High radial deflection of the shock absorber element and low unsprung masses reduce wear and tear to the track system and prevent vibrations and oscillations in adjacent buildings
7
Long-lasting tyres made of special steel – Tempered wheel tyres in the tried and tested N, H or SO Excelsior grades reduce wear and fatigue damage and guarantee maximum mileage
8
Damping rings – Optional: individually tuned damping rings for reduced noise when travelling around bends
9
Up to 14 t tonnes per wheelset – Designed for high axle loads and long running times
10
Extended safety concept – Integrated emergency features due to special shoulders between tyre and wheel body/pressure disc

Selection of previously manufactured wheel types

The performance optimised Wheel: LoRa

High radial spring deflection combined with high axial stiffness: This means that LoRa also meets exceptional requirements for reducing impact, body-conducted noise and airborne noise as well as track guidance requirements in the most difficult railway networks. It has been specially developed for high axle loads and small diameter running tread, typical of modern low-floor trams with their space-saving design. The 3 mm spring deflection in the static state achieves up to 15 times the deflection of the shock absorber element compared to conventional resilient wheels for well-developed rail lines – sufficient reserves even under the most difficult circumstances.

The comfort wheel: TDAN

TDAN (Two Discs Ascent – Noiseless) is a special development for city and tramcars with high axle loads and limited installation space and meets the highest requirements for impact, body-conducted noise and noise reduction. Compared to the LoRa wheel type, the space requirement for the rubber spring mounting in the radial direction is further reduced. Another special characteristic is the very high radial spring deflection with simultaneous track gauge stability. As a result of bearings integrated into the wheel hubs, this type of wheel is preferred when there are high comfort requirements and severely limited clearance in the chassis.

How can we construct your wheel?

Each track and carriage format poses different challenges to wheels and wheelsets. Therefore, the wheel types shown are not a standard offer to which you need to adapt, but specimens that you can individually design together with us and expand even further.
